Otras raras buenas familias (Other Queer Good Families) (2021)

Neon sign installed on museum facade
Public commission

This sign is inspired by the advertisements that bars, hotels and pharmacies use to publicize their commodities in an emphatic way.
While this image invites to meditate on the meaning of the proximity of two hands, the text emphasizes the role that families play in the development of society.
By naming something as raro (queer) and bueno (good) at the same time, I’m interested in inverting historically unfare narratives that have been used to justify the exclusion of diverse homes from the socially accepted.
